Since we celebrated Dr. Seuss’ birthday last month, I though it only fitting that I read more about the influential writer of children’s literature. His real name is Theodore Geisel. He began writing while he and his wife were on a cruise to Europe. The boat made these strange sounds for extend periods of time, he couldn’t get the sound out of his head so he began writing to the beat of the ships engine. Theodore learned the value of hard work. He drew all his own characters. He wanted to make these the words and pictures where just right. He wrote 44 children’s books over his lifetime. From his books you can tell his imagination ran wild when writing. The illustrator in this book used actual photographs of Theodore, his family and different accomplishments. This book is unattractive and screams boring, but it was actually a good read and very informative, without the 200 page synopsis. This book is recommended for intermediate readers.
