Devil in the Details is Moonstone's third all-new comic book featuring TV's original paranormal investigator, hard-nosed reporter Carl Kolchak! On the surface, this one looks like an open and shut case of embezzlement, as Chester Fredesen takes off with his company's loot while his brother (and business partner) Barry lies dying in a hospital bed. Soon, other members of the family begin to vanish, and Barry's disease goes into an impossible state of remission, as Kolchak tumbles headlong into a hi-tech horror story.

At first I was a little apprehensive about how this book would be since I am a fan of the original series and have re-watched every episode more times than I care to admit. However, this comic has surprised me into how well the characters and scenario fit into the themes of the original series. If one were to recreate the series in a more technologically advanced world (things have changed in that regard a lot since the 1970s), I believe it would exist as it does in this comic.
However, I do have one criticism of the comic. The Kolchak on the book's cover is a great rendering of the series actor Darren McGavin and that's the best compliment I can have for the artwork. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with the comic's interior artwork. It has a different and more sketchy style, but it's construction and panel layout is easy enough to follow. The only issue I have is that the characters, with the exception of a cameo appearance by Miss Emily, look nothing like their live-action series counterparts. If it hadn't been for Kolchak's trademark suit and hat, I never would have pegged him as the same character.
That's the only issue I have with this comic. If you can get past that than it is a great story with some rather interesting characters. I would also like to point out as a side note that this is a stand alone story so even if you have never seen the series or the movie it isn't difficult to follow so I would recommend it to anyone who in interested in science fiction/ mystery genres.
