This book points out the value in assessment and collaboration when implementing the Common Core. However, the author's pointed out that while common assessments throughout a district are a good idea, the reality is that teachers need to be in charge of making the assessments, using them, analyzing the data collected once implementing the assessments, and then fine-tuning the assessments.
