Jeremy Williams has a B.A. in History from Michigan State University and is currently pursuing an M.A. in African American Studies. He is the author of Detroit: The Black Bottom Community and has also published The Rise and Fall of Black Bottom, 1914-1951: A Social, Cultural, and Political Analysis of an African American Community in the Michigan State University Journal of History.

Do you judge books by their cover? This one's says a lot about it - it's small, focused, and hard to forget. Although I like the title about as much as I enjoy Ta Nahisi-Coates's hypocritical rants, it is just a provocative way the publishers are trying to get your attention. And you should pay attention. I've read this book several times, and shared it with one hard-line conservative friend who changed his mind about climate change after finishing it. It is that well-written. If you like solidly researched, beautifully written, informative books, this one will make you very happy.
