About the author

I lived in Tanta, Alexandria and Cairo. Joined Cairo University, Faculty of Arts, Department of English, class of 1961. Worked At the ministry of Higher Education. Was sent to Madrid, Spain to work as Cultural Attache for almost 5 years. In 1977, I passed the United Nations exam for Arab Translator and began working in New York in March 1978.
In 1981, I transferred to Editing Section to establish the Arabic Unit there. I stayed there till retiring in June 2001.
In 2005, I got the American Nationality.
I am married and have one son.
I read in Arabic, English, Spanish and French.
I published 26 books in Arabic: 16 translated and 10 authored.
Since I am reading now for more than half a century, I will log hundreds of books as read, which means during past time and not nowadays.
My library here in NY comprises about six thousand books in four languages.

ريفيو رواية { عزلة النسر } ل = ماهر البطوطى،

(( يحكى لنا كاتبنا الجميل، بقلم رشيق أنيق تنساب الكلمات والتعبيرات منه كماءٍ عذبٍ زلال،
أخذ لُبَّنا وأرواحنا معه، لنعيش مأساةً وطنٍ عاش فترةً انكسارٍ، وطنٌ محطمٌ يحاول النهوض،
تتجسد مأساة هذا الوطن فى صورة شاب، بدأ يومه بإخفاق، ثم حاول التجربة، ثم بُلِىَ بإخفاقٍ آخر، مع محاولة تلو الأخرى،
تبرز لنا الرواية، كم المعاناة والأحاسيس التى تجيش في الصدر من تراكم الإخفاقات، ينعزل بطلنا عن واقعه بأحاديث نفسه، يُحدثنا بطلنا وهو يمشى وهو يركب، نشعر به فى كل حالاته، يُدْخلنا فى عالمه المنهزم،
... سامى هذا، الشاب الذى لا يوفق فى علاقته بسناء حبيبته، الذى يُشْعِرها بحب الإمتلاك لها، مما يجعلها تضجر منه ومن تقيده لحريتها، فتقرر الإنفصال وإنهاء العلاقة،
ما يعيب الرواية قلة الإثارةوعنصر التشويق، ، فالرواية بها بعض الرّتابة فى الأحداث،
ويعيبها استحضار بعض أسماء الكتاب والروائيين وحشوهم في الرواية حشوًا، كان من الممكن الإستغناء عنها،
ما يميزها : قوة الربط بين الواقعية والرمزية لدرجة أنه لا تستشعر الفصل بينهم،
فالأحداث تنساق بسلاسة مع الرمزية، كأنهم نسيجًا واحدًا،
يميزها ايضًا سهولة العبارة، ترتيب الأفكار، بروز الصراعات النفسية للشخصية)) .
