MORE! of the Greatest Handguns of the World From the Best-Known, Most Popular Handgun Authority in the WorldAfter the first edition of "Greatest Handguns of the World," author Massad Ayoob cringed at leaving so many great guns on the cutting-room floor, and readers clamored for their favorites that didn't make the cut.

Massad Ayoob is an internationally known firearms and self-defense instructor. He has taught police techniques and civilian self-defense to both law enforcement officers and private citizens in numerous venues since 1974. Ayoob has appeared as an expert witness in several trials. He has served as a part-time police officer in New Hampshire since 1972 and holds the rank of Captain in the Grantham, New Hampshire police department.
Ayoob has authored several books and more than 1,000 articles on firearms, combat techniques, self-defense, and legal issues, and has served in an editorial capacity for Guns Magazine, American Handgunner, Gun Week, and Combat Handguns. Since 1995, he has written self-defense- and firearms-related articles for Backwoods Home Magazine.
More of the same. Normally that is a bad thing to say in a book review, but in this case it's not a bad thing at all. It's a compliment.
In volume 1 of Massad Ayoob's Greatest Handguns of the World (a surprise hit) Ayoob simply ran out of room. He was forced to leave out several models. In volume 2 he covers those models (the classic Colt "Peacemaker" and iconic Mauser C/96 "Broomhandle" are just two that are written about in this volume) and it's a very good job that he does. If there is any criticism that I can find (and it's minor indeed) it would be that this volume is a little slicker - more polished. Polished and competently edited are good qualities, but I liked the rougher, less polished feel that the first book had. It just seems to fit more with the "gun culture" in which buffs get together and spend hours talking about all aspects about firearms.
However this is a very minor quibble. The book is loaded with lots of great information and high quality photos. I have no doubt that like the first volume I will find myself referring back to it time and time again. It's going to be a valuable edition to my library.
