The Greek tortoise (Testudo graeca), also referred to as the spur-thighed tortoise[1], belongs to the family Testudinidae of tortoises. One of the five species of Mediterranean tortoises is the Testudo graeca (genera Testudo and Agrionemys). The Hermann's tortoise (T. hermanni), Egyptian tortoise (T. kleinmanni), Marginated tortoise (T. marginata), and Russian tortoise are the other four species (A. horsfieldii). The Greek tortoise has a very long lifespan of up to 125 years, and there are some unconfirmed tales that they can live up to 200 years. [3]
