Decoding Samara

Rate this book
Patrick Deeley's fourth poetry collection uses the imagery of trees to explore human emotions. The poems move from mythology -- the Dryads of the woods, the local legends -- to a suburban landscape where the memories of trees and the presence of timber create an unsettling effect, imaging that of the human struggle to make sense of our environment. The title signifies coming to understand the relationship with our environment, samara being the one-seeded fruit, with a wing, of some trees.
