Danny McGee lives in house with his older and younger brother. He begins his narrative chewing on his pencil, thinking of something special to write about what happened during his summer vacation. This begins a long rambling story of him eluding his mother's sharp eyes and strong nose, with hilarious comments describing all the things that tickle young children's funny bones. Bodily function humor abounds, coupled with a fight with a hose and a mattress resulting in calamitous situations. Danny wanders out and is asked by his elderly neighbor to kill a giant spider in her kitchen sink. The spider indeed turns out to be monster sized, and Danny is forced to enlist his brother to kill the beast. The twist at the end is a nice touch, and we all end up with a delicious lesson about spider crabs. Funny and aimed at the appropriate audience, I think most children will enjoy Danny's antics. This was a humorous story that should capture a young readers imagination. I received a copy of this book to enjoy.
