The Company We Keep

Rate this book
The Company We Keep is an anthology of short fiction. The stories were written by women who each, at one time, lived in Ottawa and were members of the same writers' group. The book is more than an anthology in that it also includes a portfolio of one of the author's photographs, and each author has included a brief note about her contributed work. The anthology is about the delicate, complex bonds of friendship. It is also about the delicate, complex process of writers supporting one another in a group. Each of the eleven writers represented here works independently and pursues the writer's life in her own way. But for many years they have also come together in monthly meetings to critique and encourage one another's efforts. This anthology reflects their diverse voices and offers a glimpse into the workings of the group and the evolution of the stories. It may serve as inspiration to others seeking company in a solitary profession.
