This was an excellent, well-researched, and quite comprehensive guide to the enduring influence of the Romans in France. In addition to serving as a great travel guide to surviving Roman sites, it describes them in the context of their modern locations, with tips (somewhat dated) for other nearby sights and local gastronomic experiences. The text is well-written and entertaining, while providing a detailed historical background and observations on Roman art, culture, and architecture. The author thoughtfully provided a chronology of relevant events and a key to the Roman names of modern French cities and towns in appendices.
