I do enjoy Bill Stott's cartoons and these in this volume are up to his usual standard but the jokes to support the cartoons do not excite (that is probably the wrong word in the context of 'Sex: It Drives Us Crazy!' but you know what I mean) me very much. While some of the captions are quite (mildly) amusing, much of it leaves me cold.
Some of the more innocuous jokes are when Superman arrives in the bedroom only for his wife to remark, ' No, I think I prefer the gorilla suit after all ...' and in a similar situation but this time husband and wife are in bed with the latter saying, 'I seem to remember you saying our foreplay was becoming rather predictable … well ...' as she throws a lemon meringue pie into his face! There's food for thought!
One man's mind is obviously not on the main event in another cartoon for, in his pyjamas, he is playing with his model railway in the lounge as his rather domineering wife opens the door and shouts in, 'Gerald? It's time!' By the way I should point out that my full name is actually Gerry … I am not a Gerald! Neither did I ever have a a model railway!
Two others are the lady fortune teller saying to her client, 'And in the very near future I see you needing dental treatment unless you take your hand off my knee ...' - well at least her prediction could well have come true very quickly - and the marriage guidance counsellor who is saying 'Do go on Mrs Spotwick - you were telling me your husband has no sense of time or place ...' as the husband is diving across the desk onto his wife to ravish her!
There are plenty more, some nearer the knuckle - and perhaps not as funny - but it is a reasonable read and sometimes raises a titter.
