A well written, riveting story about a boy who gets lost as a five year old in India and how he finds his way home again. This is another news story I'd heard about years ago but hadn't heard the whole story. It is gut wrenching at times as the author does not flinch from topics of poverty, starvation, human trafficking, loneliness, and the brutality of life on the streets. It would make an excellent book group book for kids 16-17+.
A life time inspirational true story! . . I cried over a half hour watching its adaptation movie "Lion", then dived into any YouTube video I could lay my eyes on about the movie and Saroo! Afterwards I had to purchase the book on audible and listen to every lost detail!! And finally I have a fulfilled feeling and all questions were answered! All in one day!!
Thanks Saroo for sharing your miracle story, thanks for your both families and my condolences for Gadoo's tragic loss!
4.5 I saw the movie "Lion" a few years ago, which is what prompted me to pick up this book from a Little Free Library. I knew the story, so I was curious to read Saroo Brierly's own words about his epic and harrowing experience of becoming lost in India as a child and ending up on the streets of Calcutta/Kolkata. It's truly a remarkable tale. I feel so strange writing this, but I think this is one of the very very few cases where I thought the movie did a better job at portraying the characters than the book. But, it's still a great read.
What an amazing story!! I just finished watching the movie again after some time and had to know all the details. This book doesn't disappoint and had me hanging on every word.
