There are many things that politics is not. Politics is not good or bad; it's neutral and natural. Politics is not a zero-sum game; politically savvy individuals can use their influence in an effective, authentic manner so that all parties involved get something positive out of the experience. Politics is not about being false; instead, political savvy is about using your skills, behaviors, and qualities to be effective, and sincerity is vital. Use the ideas and exercises in this guidebook to become a more politically savvy leader, and build your capacity to lead effectively in your organization.
The book first makes the case that political savvy is less a good/evil thing and more a skill that helps one prosper. Then the book lists out questions one can ask one self to see if they have what is considered political savviness. The book finishes with exercises to help one improve their political savviness.
Overall, the book probably best serves an audience of people new to the idea of being politically savvy and presents them with food for thought. However, if you already have a decent idea of what it takes to be politically savvy, this book doesn't bring much to the table. But, the one great thing this book has going for it is that it is very short, so at least it's a quick read. Overall 3 stars for the content plus an extra 0.5 stars for not wasting my time with unnecessary filler.
