A few years back, I came across the Justin Case Adventures series on clearance in a visiting Adventist Book Center bookmobile. I bought the entire series (except for this one, the only one they didn't have) and read them quickly. Now, thanks to my friend Katie, I've been able to finish reading the series. And I'm so glad I did!

Each of the books has an Adventist theme woven into the story, and this one covered a very hot Christian subject: the state of the dead. And I think Maylan Schurch did an exceptional job incorporating it into the story. The mystery itself, for some reason, had me guessing until the end, just like the Accidental Detectives mysteries do, mainly because this time, instead of the person who stole the painting being the one giving the threat notes, it's a different person than the actual culprit. Very simple, yet clever.

I'm a sucker for mystery stories, and I wasn't disappointed with this series. I highly recommend it to Adventist kids who, like me, love a good mystery!
