This title would be a good supplement for a civics class or even as an introduction to the Bill of Rights. After providing background on primary and secondary documents as well as describing the challenges the United States government faced when it severed itself from Great Britain, the author describes the formation of that government. Subsequent chapters provide the language used in the first ten amendments, called the Bill of Rights, and how they protect the rights of the new nation's citizens. The works of archivists and conservators are also mentioned alongside information about how these precious primary documents are preserved so that others may view them in the future. There are plenty of photographs included as well.
Written as if for a middle school or high school audience. Doesn't delve too deep into many aspects of the Bill of Rights though it does give a decent summary of the bill of rights. Could have done with less details of the physical aspects of the document and more details of the political/philosophical aspects of the document.
An excellent well written short book on the Bills of Rights, how they came into play and how important they are. This is a great read to teach you on a most basic level about them or to teach children you know. We need to know our rights. Highly recommend.
