maybe a bit too concerned with political correctness and not enough focus on history. and given that it does seem so very weighted toward political correctness I was distracted by a statistic highlighted in the book about school life. "In more far-off parts of the country, there are schools that put Aboriginal culture at the heart of the curriculum. Community schools are funded by the national government, but local committees decide what should be taught there. Aboriginal children have fewer education opportunities than Australian children." Are Aborigine children not Australian? Are not a large part of Australians having some portion of Aborigine genetic background? Should not all Australian children have exposure to Aborigine culture? I know these are questions that face cultures across the globe, but I was astounded by the lack of continuity it what I'm sure is viewed as a progressive and culturally sensitive book for elementary aged scholars.
