The Grays are a cursed family. It has been so as long as anyone can

remember. The Grays, they say, don't live very long; victims of there own

hedonism. Live fast. Die young. But they are wrong. It is true many of the

family are consumed by their addiction to the good life, but the whispered

curse allows the Grays a long and luxurious existence.

Dorian Gray IV is the last scion of the Gray line. He has grown up with the

rumors of how his father, grandfather and even great grandfather became

pariahs within the wealthiest circles of New York society; how they

squandered, rebuilt and squandered again and again the family fortune on

nihilistic whims of fancy. He's heard all the scandalous stories, but he

doesn't care. They're all dead. Even Dorian's mother disappeared not long

after he was born.

Παρότι το κόμικ βασίζεται σε ένα εξαιρετικό έργο, το The Picture of Dorian Gray του Oscar Wilde, και δείχνει αγάπη για το σύνολο της δουλειάς του δημιουργού (με αναφορές σε έργα όπως το De Profundis και το The Importance of Being Earnest), το τελικό αποτέλεσμα δεν κατάφερε να με κερδίσει.

Είναι φανερό πως οι δημιουργοί έχουν καλλιτεχνικές ανησυχίες και σεβασμό προς τη λογοτεχνία και την τέχνη γενικότερα (με ενδιαφέρουσες πινελιές όπως η παρουσία του ίδιου του Wilde ή αναφορές σε έργα όπως η «Μικρή Χορεύτρια» του Edgar Degas). Συνολικά, παρότι η πρόθεση και οι επιρροές είναι αξιόλογες, η εκτέλεση δεν καταφέρνει να αποδώσει το βάθος και τη συνοχή που θα άξιζε στο πρωτότυπο υλικό.
