Islam in Solitude is a thought-provoking collection of essays looking at the works of notables in Islamic religious thought Abu Hamid al-Ghazali, Dr. Ali Shariati, and Abdolkarim Soroush. This is one attempt to understand part of what is real and enduring in Islamic religious thought and possible methods of personal discovery. A small approach to such a vast expanse—it is a beginning. Included also is a poetic encounter with The Blind Owl, the primary work of Iranian author Sadegh Hedayat. Aaron Vlek converted to Islam in 1975. After wandering a circuitous and solitary path, she ended up where she began. This is the first in a series of observations upon various discoveries of the path of Islam as found in solitude.
