Jack has always asserted that his BDSM experiences are based in his spirituality and here, in his newest book, he brings his spiritual philosophy to life. Philosophy in the Dungeon, The Magic of Sex & Spirit approaches spirituality with Jack's uniquely kinky perspective, including historically, psychologically, and yes, physically. Jack's system is holistic, based on extensive study, his most intimate experiences, and common sense. He approaches topics such as prayer, magic, and faith with modest confidence and rescues these concepts from their usual stereotypical meaning and misunderstood dogmatism. He encourages those looking for more significance in their kinky lifestyle to embrace an individualized spiritual path and to shed dogmatic approaches to spirituality that have only too often shamed people into denying their authentic selves.
I really like the content, but the lack of production really detracts. 1. No images made it. 2. Footnotes should be a tags. 3. No chapter markers or page breaks. 4. Really could use markup.
Recommendation: author or publisher needs to learn Dreamweaver or Amazon's tools.
I'm always hungry to learn more about spirituality and kink, and how the two integrate. I can't for the life of me remember where I got the idea to read this book, but it was trash. The first chapter had an interesting take on how an individual's brain movement will slow down from an average resting state of beta waves to an incredibly relaxed state alpha or theta waves, while in subspace. This allows subspace to put a bottom in a literal meditative state.
This really spoke to me, but the rest of the book was mostly Rinella bragging about the sexual conquests he's had in his dungeon, and talking about the very, very basics of kink and consent. I'm familiar with that path, and I guess I was hoping for more of a spiritual aspect, like the meditative state discussion.
Once I noticed that Chapter 4 was misspelled (I double-checked the index), I lost interest. Images are also terrible quality and grainey.
