I picked this up at a charity used book sale and was excited to read it as I respected Sorenson's work over the years. The first part of the book details problems with the American government system through Sorenson's lens circa 1983. Much of the problems revolve around the Soviet Union but others are ones that still persist today and in many ways are much worse (e.g., budget deficit, polarization in the country, too much $$$ in politics). It's useful to read this litany of problems as a good way to reflect on today's situation, which Sorenson, if he were alive, would likely be aghast.

But his solution, a President who commits to only one term who forms a coalition government with a VP from the opposite party and a cabinet that is 50% 50%. The solutions just seem unrealistic after the last 4 years. . .
