Presents a biography of the French explorer who was instrumental in founding the city of Quâebec, and includes details about the land and people of the times and a time line.
Sometimes going to the books meant for a younger audience gives you just the amount of information you need in concise, clear form. This book does exactly that. It gives an overview of the accomplishments of de Champlain, what is known of his early life, and the legacy of his work to establish a foothold for France in the New World. The book covers the relationship the French had in with the native peoples in what is now Québec, the trials of dealing with a lack of supplies, and conflicts with the English, who also coveted this land. Like goldilocks, I found the book to be "just the right size" for what I needed.
