When first published, Herbs was extremely well received and set a new standard of excellence for gardening books. Turid Forsyth's photographs and watercolor illustrations capture all the beauty and detail of these fascinating and practical plants, and Patrick Lima's highly entertaining text is chock-full of clear information, helpful advice and wry anecdotes. The book Special sections outline how to use herbs to add color to flowerbeds and how to propagate, preserve and grow herbs indoors. The book concludes with 16 delicious recipes that make the most of fresh herbs. This beautiful book combines the wisdom of two longtime gardeners, creating a comprehensive reference that any gardener will enjoy and use regularly.
An enjoyable, sometimes funny read with a history of herbs, ideas for cooking, and growing tips. It inspired me to grow some new varieties and make better use of those I do grow by making herbal tea.
I like the way he writes. It’s write like one gardener giving advice to another. It is complete with many unfamiliar herbs as well as familiar ones, and recipes in the back!
WEll, I confess. I actually read their first book (not cover to cover) BUT bought it to retain in my gardening books collection. A friend keeps borrowing it so they are getting an early (?) Valentine's Day present of this newer edition. Cannot wait to peel back the pages to compare and will update this review/recommendation then.
