The author relates the circumstances surrounding her diagnosis with multiple sclerosis, her struggle to learn to live with the illness, and her work to raise money for MS research
This was one of the most fasinating and moving stories I've ever read. The book starts when, as a 22 year old stewardess with British Airways, Carole got the chance of a trip to Rio, something she had been after for some time. On arrival, she realises something is wrong when she goes into the hotel pool. From here her nightmare begins as she struggles to come to terms with MS. With incredible honesty and courage she describes the many emotions she goes through, and her fear of the unknown is palpable at times. Carol also includes the reactions and thoughts from her family, former boyfriend and her manager at BA, allowing them to comment from their perspective. This book is about a young women, who in her prime, had to learn to cope with something unthinkable. It's a good, educational and moving story that I have read more than once. Highly recommended.
Only a few months after I was diagnosed, I picked up Carole's book, and it gave me a little more of an idea of what I might expect. Her attacks were far more numerous and dire than mine, and she had been a healthy and active stewardess prior to getting sick. Her story is important for all of us with this stupid disease. It's all in the attitude.
