This book is now a classic. It has been printed ten times through two editions. It should be in every library, school, seminary, and home. Dr. Waite's work answer's two questions: (1) Which English Bible are we to read, study, memorize, preach from, and use today? (2) Which English Bible can we hold in our hands and say with great confidence, "These are the WORDS OF GOD in English"? He examine's the KING JAMES BIBLE, proving its superiority in four areas: (1) its superior TEXTS; (2) its superior TRANSLATORS; (3) its superior TECHNIQUES; and (4) its superior THEOLOGY.
While this book had a bit of a slow start for me, I really enjoyed the translator history and the different verse to verse comparisons of the new versions vs the King James.
Packed with data, this would book is a great introduction to the question of the Bible translation issue. Some of our evangelical brethren love the Theory of Relativity within Bible translation which allows them to pretend to be "scholarly" and treat the Bible section of the bookstore like Baskin Robbins where you can just pick your flavor (NIV, ESV, the Message, etc.). Pastors use their Bible software with 100 translations and quote the version they "PREFER" in this absurd world of pretend scholarship.
But when you cut through the nonsense, you find out that in 1881 two apostates named Westcott and Hort LIED to the body of Christ, brought in Codex Vaticanus (with edits) by stealth into the Revision Committee and produced the Revised Version (the name itself is a complete lie) pretending to have revised the King James Bible (which was a translation of the Masoretic Hebrew Old Testament and the Textus Receptus/Antioch New Testament text) BUT actually produced an entirely DIFFERENT "bible" based upon DIFFERENT texts (the Vaticanus Old Testament in classical Greek, NOT Hebrew, sometimes referred to as a "Septuagint" and the Vaticanus New Testament text in classical Greek, NOT Koine Greek).
THOUSANDS of changes based on this corrupt Codex Vaticanus produced the confusing mess of new versions that is producing Sodomite Christianity for this end times apostasy that we are now witnessing. And this book does a great job of laying out the information.
I do not endorse D.A. Waite's ministry or views on "inspiration" of the King James Bible. But the information in this book is worth reading and owning in your library.
This book is so full of malarkey it's agonizing to read. I really tried to read this academically with an "open mind" but Waite's circular reasoning starts on Page 2. The rest of the book holds other fallacies and double standards. Waite claims several times to be a biblical scholar taught under Merrill Unger, but the name dropping adds no credibility to his arguments. Most arguments offer only anecdotal evidence and very little if any valid proof. Though not as abrasive as Ruckman, Waite levels some pretty heavy charges against other versions, translators and Greek texts with no source or research to back it up. He belittles and defames those that hold opposing views. At least in this book, it doesn't seem like Waite has ever actually researched the methodology and reasoning behind some of the translators decisions in other versions.
Overall, the book is poorly written. The typeset is a smorgasbord of bolds, italics and BOOMER CAPS LOCK. Waite presents very little legitimate or original research and instead relies on fallacies, secondary sources and name calling to push his views. It's annoying how frequently (about every other page) peddles his other books and pamphlets on every given subject.
