I typically am not a big fan of the Harlequin books due to their incredibly predictable plots, but this one had a few more interesting twists to it than the usual. The talk of a curse levied at the male protagonist's family leaves you wondering if there really is a curse and how it might show itself. The mysterious bumps in the night that occur in the middle of the night seem to affirm the curse, but do they really? The interplay of historical events helps develop the plot. Sex scenes are a bit sappy, but then it is a Harlequin romance after all. The insights into both main characters in the all-knowing third person tactic of reading their thoughts is quite realistic in terms of how they might interpret things from their interactions with each other. I found it entertaining and not the usual Harlequin.
My first historical novel read many years ago. Not enough scenes with main characters as the h spent most of the book it seems traipsing all over France by herself during the revolution.
