So, I did not realize that this was a retelling of the original. I had been hoping to read the Caldecott Medal winning book to my kids. Although I liked the story and character-building lesson within, the book itself was just too long to keep our interest. In this version of the story, there is a strong likeness to the Rooster who narrates the Disney Robinhood movie. It didn't mention if Marc Davis was one of the animators on that film, but I would think it likely.

This book was made using production material for a Chanticleer movie that never got made. It is a neat little peak at what could have been. It is also interesting to see how some of the ideas here where reused for other projects.
