Rate this book
This volume Introduction to the Grammar of the Tibetan Language, Extracts from the Yig-kur Nam-shag, Diary of a Journey to Lhasa from Gyn-tse, in Tibetan, Sumpa Khan-pos's Life of the Buddha (extract from Pgsam Jonzang), Kahlon Gung-thang-pa's Life of the Present Dalai Lama, Dag-Je Salwai Melong, Situ Sumtag, Situi Shal-lung, Tshang-yang Gya-tsho's gul-lu. Also included are several appendices containing specimens of composition in chaste, idiomatic Tibetan. A sturdy copy, lacking the jacket. No names or markings less modern bookseller stamp (Shambala, Berkley). Occasional spots; no foxing. Frontis insert of the Dalai Lama, Thub-tan Gya-tsho (1882) with Ministers and author's friend, followed by The Honorable Mr. W. W. Rockhill's Description of the Present (1882) Dalai Lama. A treasure from one of the most accurate scholars of the era on Tibetan language. With the loss of countless ancient manuscripts in Tibet, Das' work has renewed importance.
