Linda MacAulay

Linda A Macaulay is Professor Emerita in System Design at the University of Manchester, England. Her interests are primarily in Human Computer Interaction – understanding how to design computer systems that meet the needs of people. She is married with three children and as with many women in tech has experienced the challenges of combining motherhood with working in a predominately male environment.

Following a Masters degree in Computational Science at St. Andrews University in Scotland she worked as a programmer and system designer on pioneering projects in the National Health Service. She has collaborated with small and large business in the innovative application of new technologies and has taught computing at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Linda has a doctorate in Computation, is a Fellow of the British Computer Society and has held numerous leadership roles.

Computers have been her passion for over fifty years, she is author of three textbooks and more than a hundred learned articles. As a STEM Ambassador she seeks to convey the excitement of new technologies to young women and girls.
