I felt like this volume was very top heavy, with getting that date and the training Tak did for a bit, the second half is them establishing the opponents, the opponents being older people who know that they aren’t the best, so even more of a chance that Project D wins, then they travel and rest, the first race starts and we end at the beginning of the race, it’s just standard for the series so 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is one of my favorite anime’s, story could definitely use a lot of help but the racing’s really exciting and love some of the main characters 😻👍🏎

If Bunta and the boss are the previous generation's Tak and Iggy, then I expect the "old guys" of team Purple Shadow might be a glimpse of what the future could hold for Koichiro and Kenji - good guys who just love racing so much that they never gave it up, even when they reached an age when it would be sensible to do so. The whole K.T. and Kyoko story fell kind of flat for me though. I would assume that even if we don't always see the details played out "on camera", K.T. would be fending off adoring fan-girls constantly, and Kyoko's neurotic clingy-ness certainly wouldn't do much to make her stand out from the competition in any kind of positive way. It was no big thing for him to turn her down, so it doesn't have much impact other than to illustrate how K.T. is starting to take his commitment to Project D more seriously. Wow, I can't believe I thought about all this enough to even write a review! I guess that's why I keep reading these as the translated versions are released...
