Lucy Daniels is the collective name for the writing team that created the bestselling children's book series Animal Ark, many of the books are also published under the name of the series creator, Ben M. Baglio.
Read this with my eldest son. Very much enjoyed it and was very funny. Had us both in fits of giggles but now i have a problem of my son now wants his own cheeky cheek 😂😂😂
This is a review of the 2002 UK edition. This book was really written by Linda Chapman. If you ever want to know who really wrote a Little Animal Ark, Animal Ark or Animal Ark Pets book, check out the copyright page. Whoever is given "special thanks" is the real author.
This is arguably the silliest of the Little Animal Ark series. Mandy gets this great idea to have live animals sitting on a table at the local church's Easter service. I have no idea why any church would agree to this, except on that weird Blessing of the Animals Day that some Catholic churches have, but this is Little Animal Ark Universe, so that's reason enough.
I'm not entirely sure why any chicken keeper would bother naming all of their chicks, even if they have only ten. They're never going to keep them all. Then again, this is Little Animal Ark Universe.
Charlie the Chick is quite a character. Unfortunately, I don't think he ever appears in any other Animal Ark book, so enjoy him while you can in this one.
Also making another memorable cameo is Toto the tortoise. He's one of the very minor animal characters of the Animal Ark Universe, but I think he's the only tortoise in that universe. It's a shame he never got his own book. Not that a tortoise makes the most dramatic of characters, but he is incredibly different. Animal Ark has two books devoted to just beagles. Come to think of it, they never did any books with a reptile as a title character. What a shame. Tortoise in the Tow-Truck or something similar would've kicked butt.
Mandy hasn't met James yet, so Laura acts in James' place here. Mandy has this magical way of making friends with almost everybody. I know it's a way to get the story moving along, but her magical powers get a bit mind-boggling at times.
As always, Andy Ellis does a joyful job with the illustrations. Whenever I get a Little Animal Ark book, I try to get one where Ellis did the cover. They are far more charismatic than the covers of other editions.
You don't need to read any of the previous Little Animal Ark books to figure out what's going on, but I do recommend reading The Brave Bunny to learn more about what kind of character Nibbles is, and his owner, Laura Baker.
