A beautiful, one-of-a-kind, special-place-in-your-heart series. I loved the innocence of this series; the sweetness of it. It is full of reminders of the importance of family and of friends. The authors of this series, Janette Oke T. Davis Bunn, have such a gift of writing. The way they strung their words together made it seem like I was reading poetry. It inspired me, showed me how I wanted to write. A beautiful, beautiful read.

This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've read the series. They are completely nourishing & soul-filling! Knowing the Acadian expulsion was an actual (horrific) event brings this to life even more. What miracles she weaves through this story. Such a joy to re-read!

Christian Historical Fiction

Book 1 The Meeting Place (Audiobook)
It took me a bit to get into this book, but now I wish it was not over!
So much faith in both the good times and bad! So much sacrifice and love for one's "enemies" it could only come from God!
The narration was ideal! Emotional when needed. I couldn't ask for a better narrator for these English and French characters who are both military and civilians, commoners and wealthy. 5 stars!

Book 2 The Sacred Shore
I wish this series was all one book. I know the next book is only seconds away with kindle, but these first two have ended with such a longing to continue the story. If they were one book, I would have know how much more time I would have had to designate to get the final resolution!

Book 3 The Birthright
Ooh, I loved all the twists!!! What an exciting book! While I'm not partial to England's nobility, this story focuses enough on the characters to not blind me with all the balls and formality!

Book 4 The Distant Beacon
For some reason, probably my own situation, this story alone, of the whole series, was a bit harder to get into.
This story also had the most Christian theme and meaning though, and I'm ever grateful for that as well. Brilliantly written as usual!

Book 5 The Beloved Land
Wow! I'm so sad to end this incredible series! This series is proof that books are timeless! I've loved this series from the start, despite the fact that it's 20 years old! I can't tell you what book, was my favorite, but I highly recommend the entire series! It's basically one story. Four woman, 2 countries, love, loss and God binding them together, despite Satan using mankind, to rip them apart with war and hate!

The first book begins with Catherine right before she marries Andrew, a British soldier, at the foothills of the French and Indian war. Catherine befriends a French woman in secret and the two share many things as two young brides and mothers. The ending has a plot twist that makes you say "no way!" and forces you to read the next book. :)

The sequels follow the lives of Catherine and Louisa (French woman) and their families. It covers the time period of the revolutionary war.

Overall, I thought that this series had the least romance out of Oke's books that I've read and I found the historical facts for the wars very intriguing.
