This charming collection offers young children an introduction to the treasures of the Bible. Ann Pilling has retold twenty-one stories from the Old and New Testaments with warmth and inspiration. Each story is accompanied by poems and prayers, making this the perfect book for bedtime.
Born in 1944 in Lancashire, British poet and children's author Ann Pilling read English at King’s College, London, where she wrote her thesis on C.S. Lewis' fiction. She has published over thirty books for children, one of which - Henry's Leg - won The Guardian Prize for Children’s Fiction. She has two sons, six grandchildren, and currently lives in the Yorkshire Dales. Since 2003, she has concentrated on writing poetry, rather than fiction.
It's a decent compilation of Bible stories, hymns, and poems (some of the poems aren't Christian). But why did they have to throw in some Bible story inaccuracies, such as God wishing He hadn't sent the flood, God telling Adam and Eve that they won't die after eating the fruit, Jesus being "much more obedient" after his parents lost him when He was in the temple, and a few others?
There’s soooo many actually great Christian bedtime books. Turn to one of those instead.
Content Considerations: Adam and Eve are shown with no clothes - nothing shown. See above biblical discrepancies.
**Like my reviews? Then you should follow me! Because I have hundreds more just like this one. With each review, I provide Content Considerations, mentioning any objectionable content I come across so that parents and/or conscientious readers (like me) can determine beforehand whether they want to read a book or not. Content surprises are super annoying, especially when you’re 100+ pages in, so here’s my attempt to help you avoid that!
