Having this book with me through a difficult time was like having a close friend near me, watching over me. Marilyn’s stories are not only beautiful but inspired me to keep a strong hold on my faith while not being afraid to have a close, personal relationship with Jesus. Her writing style is personal and captivates readers to draw nearer to God, giving easy ways to incorporate prayer into everyday life, no matter where you are on your faith journey. This book has inspired me to keep talking to God and praying for the things I want most in my life, including listening to God’s voice and knowing all things that are meant to be will be when in-line with God’s perfect timing and not ours. I will be forever grateful for this book’s message of hope and the timing it came into my life. Highly recommend to those who are seeking answers to some difficult questions and are looking to draw closer to God while finding their answers. God hears. And, God is gracious.

"Listening For God" is God-focused and uses scripture to make or support the author's main points. She also illustrates how to put the various things she's talking about into practice by using stories from her personal walk with God. The book is encouraging and easy-to-understand. It has a lot of good, basic points and a variety of ideas on how a person can apply them.

If you know you should be reading the Word more or praying more regularly but just don't feel like you have the time or desire, this book will help you out. I'd recommend this as a good book for anyone wanting to hear from God and be used by Him in their everyday life.

Listening for God was an enjoyable and easy to read book by a pastor's wife who shared her own stories and those of others. I enjoyed the Scriptural references which supported what was written throughout the book. She gave some great tips for prayer, listening, and getting out of your comfort zone. I would recommend this book - especially to "baby" Christians trying to figure out how to build a deeper relationship with our Lord.

I enjoyed this. Marilyn stayed true to the title making this book for "ordinary people." Being the out-of-the-ordinary, brilliant woman that I am* I sometimes found it a bit too light but I found her stories and her encouragement to be timely and compelling.

*please read with intended humor. :)

Hontz makes some good points about prayer and suggests way to improve your prayer life. Though well-written I didn't really gain any new insights but it definitely was worth reading.
