The story of Ellen Sinclair, wife of a Scottish chieftain, who stepped briefly and dramatically into history during the 17th Century and what I believe happened to her.
Barbara Øvstedal was an author previously writing under the pseudonym Barbara Paul and Barbara Douglas. She wrote a few books under this pseudonym but later changed to Rosalind Laker when Barbara Paul gained recognition. Her many books include The Sugar Pavilion and To Dance with Kings.
What is this book about??? By 50% Ellen the heroine had fallen in love twice and almost betrothed to a third man. It's written in the first person. Ellen reads like a juvenile teenage girl who didn't know anything about life. The flow of the story is uneven, conversations disrupted. Way too many exclamation marks. None of the characters seems real. There is no clear plot line. Ellen was in love with Robin and all of a sudden Robin disappeared. Then Ellen met George, who said he loved her a few pages after they met. What is going on in this book??
I am no publisher but I would like to ask anyone in the publishing industry just how a book like this gets published? I am genuinely confused. What is it that I am missing in this book that publisher saw worth publishing?
*I received an ARC for the book from the publisher on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I didn't love this or hate it, maybe I just didn't get it. At the beginning when I started to read the book I got confused and couldn't remember what this book was about. I couldn't see where it was going. Then it took a turn all over the place. The main character was so .... I think the author tried to make her seem independent and self sufficient but for me she was awful and self centered and I think that is the reason that I could not follow or enjoy the book.
