The Boy Who Spoke Colors

Rate this book
Felix does not speak in the usual way--instead of words he "speaks" colors. This is a wonderful gift, but a dangerous one, too. When the evil king hears of Felix's special gift, he abducts the boy and devises a plan to use him for his own greedy purposes. Felix works to escape and return home, but it will take all his luck and the magic of his gift to succeed. Full-color illustrations.

This book was written by my high school English teacher. I can't help but pity other students. Gifaldi's class was where I first started experimenting with different styles of writing and where I learned the effective power of freewriting. As a writer himself, his insight was invaluable.

Even without my personal connection, this story was fabulous. It's written for children, not down to them. The story is charming, the idea is creative, and the villains meet a Disney-type ending. And Greger's pictures were lovely. They were not superfluous and definitely added to the story.
