I enjoyed these very reads. Easy to pick up and crack on with. Given this 3 out of 5 stars as I just wanted more! More action, more romance, more build. Bit over hyped on BookTok if you ask me, and if you are an avid reader of smut I think you'd be very disappointed in the 1st book/part of the story.

However still enjoyed it as it's made my challenge of 12 books in 2025 easier.

A tale of two Vikings
4 stars

It’s two for the price of one in this book with two authors each bringing us a non-connected story about Viking marriages of convenience. The whole book is the same size read as your normal Mills and Boon / Harlequin romance, meaning you’re getting two short stories in the time it normally takes to read one full story.

Her Bought Viking Husband by Lucy Morris
We’re in Iceland and Orla (an Irishwoman kidnapped as a child and brought up as the daughter of a Icelandic couple) is having trouble with her neighbours and her kin. So when she sees the big, strong and intimidating Hakon in chains, she decides to buy him and set him free…in exchange for him marrying her and helping her secure her farm.

It’s great that in any Viking tale we can get realistic stories of strong, independent women surviving and thriving. But there are some things that it’s useful to have a man for which is exactly why fierce, independent Orla needs Hakon.

Short stories always suffer slightly from the speed of the tale and we always lose some detail, but as soon as Orla and Hakon get back to the farm, you really start to see their relationship develop and blossom.

I’m very fond of a story where one half of a couple comes into the house of the other and makes it a home. It was lovely to see that in this case, it was the man coming in and making Orla’s farm something so much better than it was before. They were a sweet couple but suited each other perfectly and we even get some intimate scenes which is always nice to build up the connection between a couple.

Hakon’s brothers also make an appearance in our story and I’m seriously hoping we get their stories soon because I’m already addicted to them. One already has kidnapped a noble woman before he arrived in our story so that’s definitely something I want to hear more about!

But this story was short and satisfying but still with the detail that I’ve come to expect from Lucy MorrisLucy Morris and the worlds she builds.

-------

Chosen as the Warrior's Wife by Sarah Rodi
This is my introduction into Sarah Rodi’s work so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. But it’s a Viking tale so I’m happy!

But our tale is more of a road trip romance - or a sea trip romance, really. It starts off in Constantinople where Fiske the Viking has lived and fought for the past 5 years. He’s about to go home and as a token of thanks, the Emperor gifts Fiske a woman from the bride show. His choice is Kassia, the same girl who attempted to steal his ship the night before.

As Kassia and Fiske travel the seas to return to Denmark, they create a bond and slowly fall in love. But Kassia was a bit of a brat. Somewhat understandable but hardly the makings of a character I was going to fall in love with. And Fiske, well, he talked the talk of being a kind and compassionate man (except, you know, the warrior part) but whenever Kassia said ‘no’ to him, he would say things like ‘it’s just a kiss’ or ‘would you at least tell me why?’. No is a full sentence.

And then Fiske didn’t really cover himself in glory towards the end - but at least we get our happily ever after. This story just didn’t really resonate with me. Nothing was quite how I liked it and that really affected my feelings towards it.

——

Lucy Morris once again captivated me with a rich and romantic tale. Sarah Rodi’s tale wasn’t for me, but as a whole, two tales of different Viking romances in one book is still worth a read. 5 stars for the first and 3 for the second gives an overall score of 4 stars!

Lucy and Sarah have done it again! They have written another swoonastic romance that I could not put down.

I know it will be a good day when I get to read another of Lucy and Sarah's books. Convenient Vows with a Viking is two small, fabulous novellas set in the Viking worlds that Lucy and Sarah have created. Each book will sweep you off your feet and make you want to read more books written by these fabulous authors. I am going to split this review into two mini-reviews, one for each novella.

The first novella I will talk about is Her Bought Viking Husband by Lucy Morris. This story was addictive, and I am hoping it's the first book in a new series Lucy is writing. This story centers on Orla, who inherited her father's land. The problem is that she is a woman, and many of those around her don't think she is entitled to land. In order to help protect her claim, she makes a deal with Hakon, who has been forced into slavery. The deal is that he will marry her and help her assert her claim over her family's land, and in return, she will free him and help him return home to exact his revenge and make sure his brothers are still alive. Like many of Lucy's books, this story has plenty of action and spice. There is trouble brewing on the horizon, and you know that there is going to be a battle over Orla and her land. There is this double build-up in this book, one around this impending battle and the other between Orla and Hakon. There is this delicious tension between Orla and Hakon that is just so great to read. Both think that they will eventually part ways and that giving in to those bigger feelings is a bad idea. I always love watching that internal struggle. It gives me so much joy. Even though this novella is sort of, there is a lot packed into it, and it is rich in detail.

The next novella is called Chosen as the Warrior's Wife by Sarah Rodi. This novella is perfect for those bookworms who like road trip romances. This story was amazing, and I loved everything about it. I love a good road trip romance because it forces the MC characters together; in this case, that added element of danger creates a really entertaining story. In this novella, we meet Fiske, who was hired to be a protector and fighter for the emperor of Constantinople. The story begins with Fiske getting ready to go back home to Denmark. He meets Kassia, who is trying to escape the city for unknown reasons. Her escape fails, and she ends up being returned to her family. The next day, these two meet again at the bride-choosing ceremony, and for romance reasons, these two end up being married. They then start the journey back to Fiske's homeland. One of the things that I always love about Sarah's stories is how rich they are in detail. She really knows how to transport her readers into the setting of her book. There are these elements of unknown danger and secrets that will make you want to turn the page because you need to know what will happen next. The relationship between Fiske and Kassia has its rocky moments mainly because of miscommunications and secrets. They find themselves at odds quite a bit at the beginning. But that attraction between them is evident right from the start, and I loved watching as they try to figure out what their relationship is.

Convenient Vows with a Viking is a nice and easy historical romance read and perfect for those bookworms who love Viking romances.

Chosen as the Warriors Wife
By Sarah Rodi

Constantinople, 1035

Kassia had begged Fiske, the ship owner, to take her away after he found her trying to steal his ship! Except her royal family finds her and are ready to punish her harshly until Fiske covers for her. She did not realize he was the Chief commander of the Emperor’s army. Now her family pretty much throws their daughter at the Emperor not caring what happens to her. As long as their family’s status and wealth is elevated, especially if she is chosen as the Emperor's new bride.

Fiske is not surprised to see Kassia at the Emperor's bride show, as she is the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. He is surprised she isn’t picked until he realizes this liar who cheated him out of half the silver after five years of service he had been promised but tells him he will get the dowry of any of the women he picks.

Soon he realizes he must save Kassia until he feels she too has betrayed him with a secret she has been hiding. Will he forgive her or send her back to her family who will sell her to the highest bidder covered in silks. Read and find out.

These are two fabulous short stories by two fabulous authors that specialize in Viking Historical Romance. The first story is by my go-to-Viking author Lucy Morris and this is my first read by Sarah Rodi that I absolutely loved and definitely will read again.

I loved both stories though they are longer than a novella book. Two great stories readers don’t want to miss!

Looking for the most anticipated books of 2024? Why not start the new year with these hot stories?

I was so grateful to have had the chance to read these short stories by two of my favourite authors! The stories aren’t related, but each has a possessive Viking hero. I’m a sucker for this type of hero.

The first story is by Lucy Morris tells of Orla, who needs a husband to save her inheritance. When she visits the trading centre, she comes across Hakon, a very big, grumpy Viking Jarl, who is being sold as a slave. Orla impulsively buys him to be her husband and Hakon swears that he will help and protect her, but in return she has to set him free because he has to go back to his land to avenge his enemy. I loved Orla, she is such a kind, cheerful and innocent lady. She understands what it is like to be a slave because she was one. She’s not afraid of the grumpy Hakon. They are a perfect match. What I loved the most was the way Lucy Morris weaves the history of Iceland and enslavement into a beautiful romance.

The second story is from Sarah Rodi tells of a Viking warrior, Fiske, a loyal warrior of an emperor from Constantinople. When Fiske gets the silver he needs to regain his throne in Denmark, he is offered to choose a wife instead. Kassia needs to get away from Constantinople, away from both her parents and the emperor. On their journey to Denmark, Fiske and Kassia keep their secrets which are so surprising, full of anguish and uncertainty but Sarah Rodi doesn’t let the steamy scene go.

I couldn’t tell you how much I enjoyed both stories. The history of the Viking Age in Iceland and Denmark were well-researched and drawn despite it being short. Her Bought Viking Husband is entertaining with a compelling plot and characters meanwhile Chosen as the Warrior’s Wife is an emotionally strong yet spicy page turner. I’m just hoping that Lucy Morris and Sarah Rodi will write the stories of the minor characters in them because one of the characters deserves to have one. Thank you, Lucy Morris and Sarah Rodi for the e-arc which I volunteered to review.

Both Stories were Very Very Good!!

They were too short for my liking 😂😂. I thoroughly enjoyed reading both. I loved the characters and storylines so much. The first story Her Bought Viking Husband - I loved how Orla took charge and fought so hard for her farm and Workers. Hakon was so bad ass! As were his brothers and their men! They made the absolute best couple. Her father’s brother and nephew were rotten to the core. Karma!!!! The second story Chosen as the Warrior’s Wife - Fiske fought for 5 long years and walked away with his treasure for sure. Kassia was abused by not only her parents but by the one in charge. He deserved to get his comeuppance but that’s a whole other story 😂😂. The King and Queen prevailed. I’ll say no more!! Loved both stories. 🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜🥰🥰🥰

This book is a beautifully written historical Viking romance. It begins with the main character, Orla, as she faces conflicts within her adoptive family. When she gets the chance to purchase a warrior slave, she decides to immediately wed this Viking to, hopefully, solve all her problems.

I found this book to be an amazing addition to my Lucy Morris collection. 😍
Lucy Morris has a way with words and is sure to transport you to a whole other time in every book she writes.

The plot was flawlessly done with no holes or loose ends, I did not find a single typographical error in the book, and it left me wanting MORE!

I rate this book 5/5 stars and deem it an "ausome read."

Her Bought Viking Husband weaves a grumpy x sunshine romance novella that is a fast-paced, page-turning read from the get-go in a plot full of betrayal, danger, and scheming set in the backdrop of the Viking era in Iceland. Lucy Morris has a way with words to make you fall hard for her strong, protective, and passionate Viking warriors. Breathing fierce, feisty feminist energy into her heroines, born to give their Vikings a run for money.

The romance between Orla and Hakon is fast-paced but packed with sizzling tension and sparking chemistry from the moment their eyes meet. I loved the internal struggle they face as their attraction grows into a warm, sweet love that keeps those pages turning quickly to find out if these two hearts get their happy ever after.

An immersive read that whisks you off into ancient Iceland, where family feuds rage, forbidden attraction burns, and love proves itself stronger than hate. If you love a sweet, toe-curling romance that comes in a quick-to-read novella form with a rich plot packed into it, Her Bought Viking Husband will be the perfect read to get lost in during the month of love!

Only reviewing first story in this book - Her Bought Viking Husband by Lucy Morris. Unfortunately I DNF the second novella in this set.

As always, readers are cautioned to check trigger warnings. Her Bought Viking Husband discusses the battle and depicts slavery, which was historically part of Norse culture.

Chosen as the Warrior’s Wife by Sarah Rodi - DNF

Blatant victim-blaming very early on. The MMC reacted terribly to assault story of the FMC and then the FMC feels bad and wants to earn the MMC’s good opinion back. Could not read after that.

I realise that this is historical and some of the opinions expressed would probably be true to the time period. However, it is not something I have to subject myself to.

I am just a reading - machine these days. It also helps that the last few books I've read have been simply incredible! This was yet another amazing read. I must admit, pages 78 - 79 were something else... I never laughed so much in a long time! Pure comedy gold right there!

The first story in this collection was 5 out of 5 stars. I love Lucy Morris's character development and how she can make me care so deeply about people in such a short format. The second story by Sarah Rodi was good but I had some issues with their communication throughout the story.

Really enjoy Morris’s writing, so immersive. Good characters and a pretty substantial plot. The romance started rather quickly but the progression of it was enjoyable.
