The England of Eric Ravilious

Rate this book
Acknowledged as one of the greatest English wood-engravers, Eric Ravilious was also a serious landscape watercolourist. This aspect of his oeuvre was generally neglected until the publication of The England of Eric Ravilious, a study hailed on publication as 'an irresistible book about a still underrated artist'.

After reading Robert Macfarlane's Old Ways: a Journey on Foot I was motivated to learn more about Eric Ravilious, artist of WW2 era England. He illustrated many landmarks and situations mentioned by Macfarlane.
For more on this topic, watch Walking Through History, Tony Robinson's documentary series.
Also recommended is Underland: a Deep Time Journey is Macfarlane's sequel of Old Ways.

Amazing Eric, what a loss to everyone when he died during WWII. This is a very good introduction to a wide variety of his engravings and watercolors.
