Fiery and independent healer Maggie Wade, shocked by conditions in the field hospital, decides to volunteer her services and disrupts the world of Dr. Bryce Cameron, a disciplined army surgeon, and they desperately try to fight the passion that is growing between them. Original.
Laurel Collins has always wanted to write books and travel in time. Writing historical fiction allows her to do both. She is the author of a dozen traditionally-published historical romance titles, including three under her "Catherine Wyatt" pen name, and altogether, over a quarter of a million copies sold. But now age and experience have led her, as they have so many women, from romance to murder (fictional, of course), and she is currently at work on her first historical mystery, set in Gilded Age Chicago.
This is an historical romance set during the US Civil War, in and around Missouri & Kentucky. When I first started this book, I thought perhaps I was going to lose interest, as it took me a few pages to get into it. I am glad I stayed with it, it was a great read. The heroine is a strong character, in some ways stronger than the hero, but he pulls it together and I would have to say that I'd recommend this to anyone who likes historical romance, especially American Civil War settings. This is a keeper for me, I will definitely read it again.
Maggie Wade and Dr. Bryce Cameron are thrown together in a Civil War army hospital and there's an attraction, but it's hindered by guilt, pregnancy and morphine addiction.
