Faerie Believers #3

Broken Beauty

Rate this book
The faerie world is more dangerous and darker than ever and with the faerie believers keeping their secrets and turning against each other things quickly spiral out of control.

Once again King Kaevin seems to have turned on his friends. Kath and Keath still have faith in his loyalty, but their trust is put to the test, especially when their other friends don’t share their opinion.
Kaevin has to do what he believes best for his Kingdom and once again the darkness overtakes his thoughts and mind so that he can’t see what is right before his eyes.

Raeshon, the prince of the Forest Grove Court is in deep trouble and finally trying to do the right thing seems to be leading him deeper. His history puts his friends against him and when he has but a breath left only they can help.

Hunters are becoming increasingly difficult to deal with and the numbers of attacks are growing. Kath battles work, college, hunting for hunters, and her complicated relationships with her friends, family, and Kaevin. Things get out of control and Kath is left broken in the dust with the hope that everything hasn’t been for nothing.

Broken Beauty is the third book of the Faerie Believers series and is everything I expected it to be. From the first page I was catapulted into the character’s world with shock and suspense. The characters take a darker turn as they wrestle with the feelings of love and protection which often leads to calamitous consequences.

I enjoyed that the characters were more flawed in this book;with their emotions running rampant they appeared more relatable and honest. I could relate to them on a more “human” basis which made me route and cheer for them when they were successful and scream and yell when they were losing or making horrible decisions. The romantic relationship between the characters, such as the ones between Kaevin and Kath are explored and the depth and substance to their love is apparent. What is refreshing is that they don’t always have it figured out but rather just take it a day at a time which makes you appreciate how the author let the characters speak to her rather than the other way around.

Characters such as Rasheon and Kaeyla who were supporting characters in previous books now step up and the author advances their characters colouring their personalities with remarkable characteristics which previously went unnoticed. These characters now get to shine in their own way which makes the scope of the novel more vast and enticing. Another great thing about this book is that all the apparent inconsistencies seen in the previous books are neatly rationalised in this book. The ending of the book is satisfying but it leaves room for expectancy on what will happen in the final installment. I for one, am eager to read it and find out how the K3’s will fare, how the characters grow in their new roles and who will now pose a threat to the existence of the fae.
