It cultivated my love of science. Packed with information on zoology, geology, meteorology and more, it has hand-drawn illustrations and has stood the test of time. Great for the young and old alike.

I read The Amateur Naturalist's Handbook: a Classic Now Revised and Expanded - to Make All the Outdoors Your Classroom by Vinson Brown. i couldn't find the English version of the book on Goodreads, and i couldn't figure out how to upload the image of the book. This book would be good for anyone who wants to promote the love of the outdoors for young adults.

Very old book, a bit strange to read now (especially as a woman) but a fun, quaint ride. A lot of the info still holds up! Did not expect the chapter on DIY taxidermy.

You need to find the original 1948 edition (Little, Brown and Company). The revised edition was edited - "updated" - and the most important chapters at the end were deleted. The book is divided into four sections that will lead a total beginner (observing, collecting and naming) into true scientific study of nature. Mr. Brown's writing was so engaging (chock full of personal stories highlighting his pursuit of the naturalist's trail) that one could read the book as a narrative without actually working on nature science projects. The original edition had a conclusion that pushed the reader into following their own path, with creativity and individuality, even dipping into philosophy. Life-long lessons: It's a charming little book that one never really finishes.

I'd purely love to correspond with other people who've read this book and perhaps have done some of the projects.
