After being called stupid and fat by the kids at school, Patrick learns that he is special in his own right and does not have to see himself as others do
I don't think I've ever read a more depressing children's book in my life. Unintentionally this seems more like something out of National Lampoon written by Michael O Donahue than a real children's book. The story paints a bleak and depressing life for the protagonist, and that would not be so bad in a way if there were a hopeful ending. Not so for this protagonist who only had a lamb to comfort him and nothing else despite any well intention ed and reasonable advice that he is given by adults and oddly the lamb itself. I feel like the editors and publishers really flubbed here. This could have been a good book, but instead some well meaning teacher or counselor is handing some poor kid a shit sandwich of a book and hoping they don't become suicidal. Do not encourage others to read this, especially if they have a life akin to the protagonists, there are thousands of books better than this one.
Although I don't agree with the language of the book, I found that it had. a few touching moments. I also felt that the message was intended for good, but I would not read it to my class. Last thing, the illustrations are truly outstanding.
