The Bronx drill music scene and Brianna Morgan were two things that didn’t mix, yet somehow she found herself immersed in its gritty underbelly. After moving to New York City from Detroit, Bri had her sights set on reinventing herself and starting over. What she got instead was a lust filled entanglement, fueled by indisputable physical attraction with the hottest drill rapper in the city. But life has a way of changing in a twinkling of an eye, and now Bri is being pulled in another direction; this time being led by her heart. The road to true happiness is also a messy and deadly one. Paved with street politics and ceaseless gang wars, but is it worth that risk?
I started this book and was interrupted with work and got back to it weeks later, so upset that I didn’t have the chance get into it the first time! I did not put it down except to have dinner (and that was rushed so I could finish the book). The characters are relatable, realistic, and had me crying, angry, and laughing out loud. It was such a moving story to me that I was ready for the next book as soon as I closed it. I could binge this in any form!
There’s a glossary and playlist to help with the slang and set the mood. It’s immersive, which I haven’t seen yet in another book like it. This will be a trend, I believe.
This is not your typical Urban Fiction. The dialogue fits but the skill and style in writing is atypical of the genre, which I loved since I find them less pleasing to read as an adult as my preferences have changed. So if you like some snooty lit (or just other genres) and some ratchet drama, you’ll LOVE this book.
