Rate this book
In this illuminating audio experience, Deepak Chopra invites the listener to experience the therapeutic power of sound through language and music. Part 1 opens with Deepak discussing how language shapes material reality, influencing our beliefs and behavioral responses. He continues with a reading of sacred verses taken from The Bhagavad Gita. Each verse is introduced by Deepak, providing context and interpretation for contemporary listeners. The ancient verses provide knowledge and clarity, their power evoked through the very sounds of the words themselves. As one listens closely to the verses, their insights, knowings, intuitions, and physiological responses are revealed, bestowing peace, harmony, laughter, love, and above all, healing.

I had this when it was on casette tape. I must have listened to it over 50 times. I really loved it. Now I like to read commentary with the Gita. But then, just listening to it, seemed magical.

Chopra provides some good spiritual context for the Gita. The reading of the Gita, with the classical Indian music in the background, is a daily part of my drive to work to help me stay centered. It's the only English reading I've found that I would listen to more than once...

This is really a gift! Deepak is a wonderful teacher. He has the ability to bring profoundly difficult concepts to an understandable and useful level. I recommend this to anyone interested in the interface between science and spirituality and the enduring truth behind ancient knowledge.

Another translation of the Gita that I read recently. This one is really something - the audiobook had lengthy sequences of traditional Indian music. It's also much less "scholarly" and much more spiritual: you're not supposed to think so much, you're supposed to imbibe the material like a sponge.

It talks about natural healing, and how the teachings of the Gita help with that. It might basically be a self-induced placebo effect, but the placebo effect is great, so if we can induce it simply by reading the Gita, that's amazing.

This book goes through the Gita (though without the last few chapters), then moves on to other classical spiritual texts. I must admit I got lost in the second part. It was even more metaphorical, and talked about lots of gods I knew nothing about, so I had a hard time following.

Deepak Chopra demystifies the mystical ideas of the ancient Vedic texts. This is a good initiation into non-western thought.

I wasn't really into Chopra's introductions, but listening to the Bhagavad Gita this way was absolutely beautiful.
