An ideal starting point for all, including seminarians, who are exploring a call to chaplaincy ministry. Unlike most other books in this field which are specific to one form of chaplaincy and are often written from an autographical viewpoint only, this new resource meets a critical need for an introductory and overview look at chaplaincy in general.
The book gives clear facts about the ins and out of being a chaplain. I found the book kind of dry and devoid of emotions but iI did give good advice in what to do and where to go to do this ministry. The book amplifies what is taught in class and is written like a textbook. I recommend it.
The Work of the Chaplain is a good read for any person interested in the various types of Chaplaincy. The function, roles, and responsibilities of each type (i.e. Fire Chaplain, Military Chaplain, Hospital Chaplain, etc.) are put forth in detail. I recommend this book to all going into ministry or servant leadership.
This is one of the textbooks I had to read for a course I'm currently taking. It's a very handy resource for anyone who is considering chaplaincy or is already a chaplain. There's lots of helpful information, although my only disappointment is that some of the resources were solely for chaplains in the US. Other than that, I'm sure it's one that I will return to fairly often in the future.
While I really appreciated a lot of the information given in the book, the poor handling of Scripture and the pushy post-modernism was very off-putting throughout. Still, helpful for me for general information.
Good summary of the work on a chaplain in a variety of settings, some of which I have not read completely. The areas of interest to me were well done and the general information was excellent.
Very good short intro book to chaplaincy of various sorts. Well-written, and applicable sections to all kinds of chaplains. Because it lays some important foundations I will return to these insights in the future.
Basic manual on where, how, and why chaplaincy is performed. Some of the examples of how chaplains can serve in different organizations were interesting, but otherwise the book was fairly dry.
Took a class from her and learned what it feels like to be the victim of gender discrimination in class discussions. I can't complain because she graded fairly, and her book was pretty decent.
