A bit wordy so the gems it offers in terms of improving your swimming are hard to find and maybe not explored to there full extent. If you find yourself struggling to improve your swimming and have hit a plateau this is a great book.

I love walking in the lakes and mountains with my husband*, and if we find a mountain lake, we can't resist a dip, however chilly. We also brave the British seas without wet suits - older generation, I guess! However, swimming pools have shown me that my linear swimming style leaves something to be desired, in terms of alignment and breathing, and I am a fan of the Alexander Technique, so this book appealed

It has some good lessons, which I look forward to trying out next time I'm swimming, and if I come across a teacher of AT/swimming, I will aim to have some practical help, but I did find the writing a little repetitive at times. It did however have a wonderful two paragraphs on The Teaching of Fear. It begins:

'Fear is all around us. We go through life being afraid - of people, events, death, the unknown, ourselves, and of fear itself.'

*When we holidayed in Ruhpolding, Bavaria one year, we found the walking opportunities limited, compared to the Austrian Tyrol, but this was more than compensated for by the stunning town swimming baths, which included two large ordinary outdoor pools (surrounded by green lawns, trees and view of mountains), a fun slide (yes, we were the oldest on it!), an external thermal pool, a charming area for babies and toddlers, a wave pool, a sauna and a steam bath. All immaculately clean, and if you are staying in a local hotel, the tourist card when we were staying gave you 3 hours a day free entry. Brilliant!

Couldn't finish even though I'm an ardent Alexander student. Gave it to charity....
