Many of the simple games enjoyed by children for centuries are rapidly disappearing because of restrictive regulations and the lure of the computer, and so English Heritage has conducted a survey of its members requesting information about the traditional games they enjoyed as children. The results are published in this charming book - an A-Z of such intriguing games as Finger, Thumb or Rusty Bum, Eggity Budge and Knocking Down Ginger, as well as old favourites like Hopscotch, Jacks and It. Beautifully illustrated with black and white photographs and drawings, this book brings back an age of innocence where children had fun with just a tin can or a few sticks. Relive the excitement of British Bulldog, the tingling expectation of Oranges and Lemons, and the danger of Tip Cat, games which encouraged friendly competition and team-building as well as being enormous fun.
Great book that brought back memories of games I played as a child (and which I fear are being lost to the children of today) The best thing is I finally found out the name and how to play it again, of a childhood game I played at school.
