The Book of Acts and Paul in Roman Custody is Volume 3 in a six-volume series working to place the Book of Acts within its first-century setting. This book provides an opportunity not only to learn about the custodial system of the Graeco-Roman world, but to better view Paul's persona and Christian mission as well.
I read this book while working on a paper about prisons in the ancient world. This book appears to be the standard and it leaves few stones unturned. The references to primary sources are endless. The book is well organized and is an easy, enjoyable read. The only downfall, but the title is clear, is that he doesn't say much about Paul's epistles and the references made to being in prison.
