I've been trying really hard to curb the yelling lately and this book is giving me some good ideas/alternatives. The concept of consequences vs. punishment makes a lot of sense to me. I like the way this book is laid out in easy to read chapters...ones that can easily be flipped to when you are dealing with a certain situation. I'm glad i have this book on-hand...even reading a few pages helps relieve frustration and arms me with a new attitude. Wish I had bought this book years ago...

Bill Corbett straps on his parenting Black Belt in this no-nonsense approach to raising “Cooperative Kids!”

Parents are still the most important influences in any child’s development, and Corbett’s “Love, Limits, Lessons: A Parent’s Guide to Raising Cooperative Kids” offers sound advice for parents based on discipline, involvement and compassionate strength. The author confronts the contemporary social climate head-on and offers solutions that work today based on values that have worked across generations.

Corbett’s entire book resonates with the concepts of Black Belt Mindset, especially the concepts of discipline and gratitude which the author blends masterfully:

“It’s definitely a different world than the one we experienced as children. We work harder to day to create comfortable lives for our families and it’s hard to accept that our children don’t seem to appreciate what they have and what we do. In so many ways it’s become a world of instant gratification with just about everything available 24/7 for our convenience. But it’s up to us to teach our children gratitude through the example we set and the discipline we use at home.

“Some parents think that discipline simply involves actions you take when your children misbehave and act out. It’s not! As a variation of the word ‘disciple,’ which means to teach or train, discipline means ‘the training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior, especially training that produces moral or mental improvement,’ and it’s an opportunity we have ever time we are with our children…”

If we want children to become productive, responsible and happy adults we must be disciplined in training them to be so and we must discipline ourselves to lead by example. It’s often said that children are the future; if so, the training and guidance you give your children shapes that future.

I am always optimistic about our future. I see remarkable parents and amazing children every day. “Love, Limits, Lessons” will help shape that future by helping struggling parents overcome challenges, by helping good parents become better and by helping those considering parenthood prepare for the adventure!

An EXCELLENT, informative and easy read that is incredibly helpful! I learned so much from it and have passed it around to parents at my job! Everybody loves it! I HIGHLY recommend one of his seminars, if you ever get the chance to go! He's very energetic, entertaining and informative! You will NOT be disappointed with this book! It has helped me to redesign my curriculum in working with children and incorporate more effective techniques! Also, to understand the underlying means in children's behavior. Great for use of improving your skills, knowledge and techniques, and a great gift for parents!!!

This book is a must read for parents. It is applicable to
parents of toddlers and teens and anyone in between. I have been able to implement some of the useful tools already. Our mornings, with twin boys who are age 4, are now going smoother. Chapters are short, with a wide range of answers on many common questions. A fantastic book!
