This was a longer type book, (so not a short one that a beginning reader would stay with). The little girl is from a broken family, but her Daddy and Mama and step Dad are all friends and get along and help her to be happy. She has a special birthday and gets things she likes. And one thing was a puppy. She realizes that puppies are a handful and are hard to take care of. Carmel gets away from her a couple of times. But even though it's tough caring for she loves the puppy and knows it's worth caring for it.
